PRESENT CONTİNUOUS

-We form the present progressive with the present tense of the verb to be ( I am, you are etc ) and the present prticiple of the verb ( verb ing )

I am reading He is watching

-We form the negative by putting ''not'' after the verb to be :

-We form the interrogative by putting the verb to be before the subject and the present participle after the subject:

He is singing Is he singing? yes he is / no he isn't

-We use the Present Progressive for actions that are happening now, at the moment of speaking:

Mary is talking on the phone.

Expressions used with the Present Proggressive:

look! listen! now, at the moment, this morning,

Formations of the present participle

-We form the present participle by adding -ing to the verb:

talk-talking

-Verbs which end in -e drop the -e before the -ing:

come-coming take-taking

-Verb with one syllable which end in one vowel + one consonant double the final consonant before the -ing:

stop-stopping run-running

BUT We do not double x: mix-mixing

-Verbs with two or more sylables which end in one vowel + one consonant double the final consonant only when the last syllable is stressed:

begin-beginning but visit-visiting

-Verbs which end in one vowel + I double the -I before the -ing

travel-travelling but sail-sailing

-Verbs which end in -ie change the -ie to -y before the -ing

die-dying lie-lying
